Care at De Baliol Care Home

The team at De Baliol value friendship and work to deliver the best possible care, allowing residents to enjoy their lives in comfort. Under the management of Danielle Carter and her qualified team of nurses and care assistants – who speak English and Filipino – new residents are given a dedicated carer to ensure a smooth transition and to provide support. We have 72 members of staff to ensure this is possible so we can provide the best elderly care in Northumberland and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

Facilities at De Baliol Care Home

With a friendly, in-house chef,  most dietary and nutritional requirements can be catered for and a menu created with input from yourself and your family. Fresh food and home cooking are always on the menu to give residents a well-balanced diet. There are two dining rooms and two lounges where residents can unwind and socialise throughout the day, promoting an independent, comfortable environment.

Our outdoor areas feature a large garden and gazebo with a sitting area in which to relax, while a play area for visiting children means residents can spend quality time with family and friends. There are also phone points and free internet access throughout the care home so residents can stay connected with their families and friends for person-centred care.

De Baliol has plenty of parking and visiting hours run 24/7 – but we ask that visitors avoid meal times where possible.

Activities at De Baliol Care Home

The team at De Baliol like to keep residents stimulated both mentally and physically, which is why a number of activities are regularly scheduled by two dedicated activity coordinators. Tai Chi, mind exercise sessions, bingo, baking and sing-alongs are just some of the ways residents are kept entertained, active and happy.

Day trips are organised – including trips to the coast nearby – to give residents new places to explore and enjoy, while the facility itself features a hairdressing salon and hairdresser to give a personal experience without having to leave the home. Themed days, barbecues and fayres are also set up for family days at the home.

De Baliol also features a recently-opened, dedicated dementia wing for residents who require specialised care in relation to their condition. This allows staff to work with residents who share the same needs more closely.

Local amenities near De Baliol Care Home

De Baliol is ideally situated very close to some great spots, most notably Newbiggin-by-the-Sea bay which is less than a 10-minute walk away. Here, there is the “Couple” statue by Sean Henry installed on the breakwater in 2007, which has become a popular tourist attraction. There are also some delicious fish and chip eateries along the beachfront, along with other restaurants and cafes to enjoy all year round. 

The beautiful Plessy Woods is just a 16-minute drive from the care home where residents enjoy picnics to socialise in the sun during the summer or a crisp autumn stroll. 

For those wanting to plan a day trip to somewhere nearby, the Woodhorn Museum is less than a 10-minute drive away. A converted coal mine full of history, visitors can experience tours, talks, exhibitions and events so there’s plenty to fit in!

Transport links near De Baliol Care Home

There are a number of bus stops located very close to the care home, perfect for day trips and visiting family. Nearby bus stops can be found at the police station and the sports centre which are just a couple of minutes’ walk away.

The Morpeth, Widdrington and Pegswood railway stations are also within a 15-minute drive from the care home. From here, residents and visitors can travel to local places of interest with ease, such as Newcastle upon Tyne which can be reached within 30 minutes on the train.
